The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America
hen in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Thomas Jefferson may very well be the master of the run on sentence.
We have Memorial Day, Veteran's Day etc....
but if it were not for this brave group of people over 200 years ago, we would
not even have a United States of America and all the rights that we associate with being American.
So many of our nations holidays are becoming watered down, and really only serve as a justifiable day off of work. Let's not let this one get that way.
Many many husbands, brothers and sons, died fighting for something, quite honestly they probably weren't even to certain about. They didn't know what this "America" was really going to be, they only had an idea at the time. Yet, they fought. They fought FOR the right to BE independent, not just defend that right. If not for those courageous men, we could possibly still be an English Colony.
So sometime today, let's pause as we bring our hot dogs to our mouths, as we sit in our own backyards, enjoying the freedom to do as we please , and say what we please today, and say a small prayer of thanks to those men.
